Waterbased SMA: solutions

XIRAN XL grades are hydrolyzed Styrene Maleic Anhydride copolymers, and are used in for instance the leather, pigment and ink, and adhesives industries. Hydrolyzation enables SMA to be used as a polymer dispersion or solution with various features and solid content, one of which is its functionality of becoming an effective surface size for the paper industry or as a dispersant/anionic or cationic surfactant for the pigment dispersion or wax producing industry. Further it functions as a substitute for acrylic binders or as a partial substitute binder chemistry for formaldehyde and phenol formaldehyde type applications which are widely used. Polymer coatings containing SMA are versatile and can be modified to the specific end-uses. Polyscope defines together with its customers the needed features and based on this input selects the starting neat resin which is used in combination with the hydrolyzation medium and if needed additional chemicals for enhanced functionality and performance.

Waterbased coatings
Waterbased coatings are perfect to use on for example the daily papers, because of its advantageous properties. Those kind of coatings have a high pressing speed because of their short drying period. In addition to this, waterbased coatings have also the following properties: environmentally friendly, provides gloss on paper and resistant against wearing.

Another often utilized coating is the polymer coating. Polymer coatings are used in for instance the automotive industry. The function of polymer coatings in this industry is that they prevent fading and rusting. Nowadays, polymer coatings can even heal themselves by being exposed in sun light.
